Hematite is a silvery, shiny opaque gemstone that almost looks like metal.  It gets its name from the Greek word "haimo" which means blood because of the color of its powder.  Egyptians valued it as a cure for hysteria.  It has been found in tombs of pharoahs.  Because of its association with Mars, it was also considered to be of invaluable help to warriors rubbing their bodies with it.
