SERPENTINE - This stone comes in staggering variety of colors. The variations in color is the result of varied mineral infusions in the stone. The name has been derived from the color and appearances of the stone which resembles the skin of a serpent. The best quality serpentine has fine textures with no cleavages. Serpentine is the most common stone in use with varying hardness.  The hardness ranges from 2.5 - 5.5 on Mohs scale. The notable areas where the deposits of serpentine occurs are New Zealand, China, South Africa, Italy, England and the USA.
